This 5-day intensive and interactive course prepares police officers and representatives of the community to serve as liaison officers to faith-based communities. The program will have an emphasis on engaging with faith communities and teaching students to provide actionable information that these communities can use to make their facilities, participants and guests safer.
There will be an overview discussion of major religions including core belief systems, origins, days of services, major observances, customs, facilities and etiquette. There will also be discussion of relevant property crimes and statutes, laws of self-defense and personal bias.
Students will learn how to:
✔■ Conduct security and crime prevention assessments for faith facilities
✔■ Recognize hate crimes, terrorism indicators and bias (including personal bias)
✔■ Teach suspicious activity recognition and reporting
✔■ Teach response to bomb threats, suspicious packages and SWATing incidents
✔■ Teach verbal contact and de-escalation skills to security personnel and safety volunteers
✔■ Deliver active threat / active shooter response presentations
✔■ Participate in multi-disciplinary threat assessment and threat management teams
✔■ Facilitate tabletop exercises for emergency scenarios in faith-based environments
